What would drive a man to dismember humans, have sex with their corpse bodies, and eat some of their dead body parts (“Secrets of a Serial Killer” 3)? Jeffrey Dahmer’s past with his mentality shows how he became into this monster. He killed at least 15 people and used various methods that would satisfied his strange urges. The outcome of these actions soon got him arrested, and during his time in jail he got murdered. Jeffrey Dahmer’s unhealthy mentality and sick urges, that he could not control, lead him to kill many people in order to fulfill these urges.

When he was in court he was found guilty of 15 murder counts (“Jeffrey Dahmer Biography” 1). At first he was slowly stepping into his MO, or methods of operation, experimenting on how he would kill his victims that would suit his urges. His first experiments were Flowers and Simpson, who both managed to escape Dahmer’s clutches. Bobby Duane Simpson, who was 27 at the time, went home with Dahmer. Once they went got to Dahmer’s home, Dahmer offered Simpson an Irish coffee drink. Simpson, clueless to what it would do to him, drank it and later passed out. Once he awoke he found himself to be in a basement with Dahmer ontop of him, naked. Hastily he escaped but instead of telling his story to the police he went to talk to people in Phoenix, a bar. A man listening to the story came to the conclusion that Dahmer drugged him. After Flowers and Simpson he began to do his first (official) kills. His first kills were in West Allis where he murdered 3 men. James Doxtator, only 14, Dahmer had sex with him, drugged him, and afterwards he strangled/dismembered the boy. One of Dahmer’s well known victims is Konerak Sinthasomphone. Sinthasomphone, a 14-year-old, had an opening to escape but when the police came they completely neglected to do anything. Dahmer once stated that he was incredibly lonesome and he didn’t want his victims to leave him, so this lead him to do these awful acts. He pled a guilty but insane statement, the statement was that he suffered from a mental illness, possibly psychotic delusions. However jurors were not convinced but this statement and thought he should be held responsible for his actions. The judge sentenced him to 15 life sentences, which is 936 years (Newton 61). Many theorized Dahmer had gone smug, that is why he let the last few of his victims go (“Secrets of a Serial Killer” 4). He was sent to a maximum security facility in Portage in 1994 (“Jeffrey Dahmer Biography” 1). Dahmer was going to spend the rest of his life in jail so he passed time with art books, bird drawings he would admire, listen to Schubert tapes, Gregorian chants, and humpback whales (“Sins of the Son” 3). He also read the newspaper and the Bible. Reading the Bible led him to convert to Christianity during his sentence (“Secrets of a Serial Killer” 5). Dahmer wasn't the only one affected by the outcome, his family was as well. His father, Lionel Dahmer, wrote a book on Jeffrey Dahmer, titled A Father’s Story, trying to uncover why he did the murders. To this day Lionel never uncovered those mysteries.
