If there was a patient who needed a blood transfusion due to chronic leukemia who is a Jehovah witness I would strongly push for the patient to receive a blood transfusion to save their life. Despite the client being less inclined to accept the benefit of a blood transfusion I feel that it's imperative for the patient to know the significance of a blood transfusion and how crucial the decision is. Personally, I believe the pros outweighs the cons enormously because the choice ultimately results to either life or death. With that being said life is precious and deserves to be saved if there is treatment available. They're well known religious community are no strangers for being known to decline the transfusion of specific blood components. Although their decision isn't based on the initial perceived risks of the transfusion itself, though, it is a scriptural stand based on biblical texts. For example, (Lev. 17:10-16) states, " the life of all flesh is the blood thereof: whoever eat it shall be cut off", and (Acts 15:28-29, 1-3) says, “Abstain from the meats offered to idols and from blood''. With grasping the understanding of Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs, one must understand the magnitude of difficulty when a Jehovah witness member needs a blood transfusion. One might ask, “Should I lay down my religious belief to save my life or should I stand strong in my religious belief and have faith that everything will be ok?''. Acts 15:19-21, 28 is the scripture Jehovah’s witnesses typically point to as the reason they refuse to accept blood transfusion. Acts 15:20 says, “Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immortality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood’’. This scripture is clear from the context that the instructions are simply against eating/drinking blood, however, not blood transfusions. Blood transfusions were not yet of existence during bible times. So, how can the scripture be speaking in terms of not receiving a blood transfusion? There were countless religious practices that involved eating and drinking blood and/or strangling an animal to keep more of its blood in its meat.
