The Victorian age was a time for Britain to find freedom, and to be restful. Except for Dr. Henry Jekyll. Jekyll had a secret identity: Mr. Hyde. Dr. Jekyll’s erratic personality reveals that good and evil exist throughout his body. This behavior explains how in the novella, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, by Robert Louis, Dr. Jekyll lives his life struggling with good and evil in his life and this develops throughout the story. This develops throughout the story by, having the desire to injure people and kids, deciding to not interact with his friends and by letting his secret identity destroy him. Jekyll ultimately destroyed him slowly. When Mr. Utterson tried to get information on Mr. Jekyll’s odd personality by talking to Mr. Poole he said, “…he shuts himself. Well he shut himself in the cabinet. I have been afraid for about a week” (27). Dr. Jekyll has been scaring one of his closest friends. Jekyll’s personality has been corrupt for a long time now, he once again happens to be scaring people. People are not sure if he deadly or affectionate at this point in time. Dr. Jekyll had a potion that could change his whole appearance and personality. The effect of this strong potion made Jekyll turn into Hyde without taking the potion. When speaking about Jekyll, Utterson said, “He had now seen the full deformity of that creature that shared with him….”(53). That was all for Jekyll. The evil defeated him and he could not beat it. People struggle with evil and good, but in this case the evil won out. Jekyll just craved the evil and could not handle the withdraw of the drug Jekyll
