Scout Finch Harpers Lee’s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, was told from the first-person perspective of Scout, Jean Louise, and Finch and was a unique blend of Scout’s younger and older self. 1933 in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. The Great Depression had affected the city badly and was still affecting them. Maycomb was a tired old place with grass growing on the sidewalks, rainy days making the ground turn red and it was always scorching hot.
In Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, there are many dislikeable characters. But there is one character that is anything but that. His name is Jem Finch. Although at times Jem can be unkind, for the most part he is very generous.
Then, there is Jem Finch, also known as just Jem. Jem is exceedingly brave and shows a lot of growth and empathy throughout the novel. Jem is the older brother and he is going through puberty and now he shows it through some of the novel. Jeremy Finch (Jem) ages from ten to thirteen in the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird. This substantial fragment in his life displays the many ways he has changed both mentally and physically. His sister, Jean Louise Finch (Scout) has a distinct way of influencing his growth. Jem starts the novel by disagreeing and starting conflict with Scout, however, we realize that towards the end of the book Jem is more loving and helpful towards his sister. The coming of age shown by Jem is also influenced from the amount of experience he has gained.

The story is narrated by Jean Louise "Scout" Finch, a young girl who lives with her older brother Jem and their widowed father, Atticus Finch. Racial injustice and social inequality are themes that are explored in the book. Tom Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white lady, is given legal representation by Atticus. The Finches encounter hostility and threats because of their friendship with Tom as the trial goes on, exposing the town's racial prejudices.

This novel follows Scout Finch as she creates her own ideas about the world around her, As she creates her own definitions about people based on what she learns herself and what people say around her. The novel follows her trying to learn that everyone is different and that you need to see things from their perspective sometimes.

He specifically focuses on the development of honesty, courage, and humility.
In To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, Jem grows from a little boy to an intelligent young man. Throughout the book, he discerns many things that shape his personality. As Jem grows, he learns how bad society is and that not everyone is perfect. Fortunately for Jem, this ends up helping him and he finds out that Atticus is a hero and that he should look up to Atticus. Through Atticus and the trial, Jem loses his innocence by learning about prejudice, bravery, and that the justice system is crippled.
Jem’s feelings even change emotionally. Jem has a physical change, and acts more of an adult figure in his ways. Jeremy Finch differs thoughout the book, by how he communicates toward other people. In to Kill A Mockingbird Jem showed many examples on how he felt terrible for people in the book. For example when scout got in a fight with Jem, he would still show maturity, and say “night scout.”

These events are displayed through the utilization of personification, idioms, and symbolism. The tone shifts from being lighthearted in the first half of the book to a more serious tone in the last half of the book.
Scout looks up to Jem, greatly values his opinion on many different topics and trusts him completely. She follows his lead on may things such as when Atticus enquire about the nature of a game they are playing which depicts Boo Radley , “ Jems evasion told me our game was a secret so I kept quiet.” (Page 45) Jem in turn enjoys spending time with her and adores her.
Mockingbirds are beautiful, singing many songs. Showing up in many ways. They do nothing other than amuse and sing for listeners enjoyment, but why hurt them? Jeremy Finch, son of Atticus Finch, brother of Scout and a citizen of Maycomb. In the beginning Jem is ten years old and through the book ages three years and becomes thirteen.
Jem, a young and smart boy develops and matures through many unique situations in the novel. Jem is exposed to the harsh belief, judgement and circumstances of the court at a very young age. Following his father, Jem involves himself in the trial between Tom Robinson and Mayella Ewell yet takes Tom’s side due to his father's involvement. Jem slowly loses faith in the justice system and is faced with a loss of innocence as explained by Scout“It was Jem’s turn to cry. His face was streaked with angry tears as we made our way through the cheerful crowd.
“Did the struggles and changes of the 1960’s make the U.S. more or less Democratic?” The 1960’s was a special time in America that we will never forget. The term democratic means more social equality and rights of the people. People realized that sitting and watching what was happening in front of them without saying anything would not help the situation.
A father plays a crucial role in the life of his children. One modern adage expresses a touching thought about fathers, stating, “Dad, a son’s first hero and a daughter’s first love.” This quote embraces the relationship of Atticus Finch and his children, Jem and Scout, in Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird. Jeremy, the older of the Finch kids, holds his father in extremely high regard and depends on his guidance in life while his younger sister, Jean Louise, trusts Atticus whole-heartedly and adores him despite her occasional indifference toward him. During the three years in which To Kill a Mockingbird takes place, the author grants a glimpse of Atticus’ method of upbringing.
