Conceits are extended metaphors that use the similarities of two wildly unlike ideas. Jenny Dolores Rivera Saavedra, better known as Jenni Rivera was born in Long Beach, California on July 2, 1969. Jenni Rivera is daughter of, singer and composer, Pedro Rivera and Rosa Saavedra, and sister of Lupillo Rivera, Juan Rivera, Gustavo Rivera and Rosie Rivera. Jenni is better known as a Mexican-American singer. Jenni Rivera’s teen years weren’t easy. She got pregnant at the age of 15 by Trino Marin, her parents kicked her out of their house and then she dropped out of school to take care of her baby and to marry Trino in 1984.
On April 16, 1971 the Queen of Tejano Music Selena Quintanilla Perez was born. Although she was born in Lake Jackson, Texas she grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas. Selena at first had no interest in pursuing a music career but instead wanted to be a fashion designer. Her dad Abraham Quintanilla former musician in "Los Dinos" had started a family band called "Selena y Los Dinos".
The life journey I would like to follow is Celia Cruz. She was born October 21,1925,one of the most famous salsa singer. While growing up she has been through challengeable life experiences, career, and on the other hand she became a legacy. Her fans and her faith gave her the strength to keep on going. First, growing up she was the second oldest, there were 14 children.

Selena changed the music world in many different ways. Selena was the first female singer of Tejano music to ever have a large amount of success. Before Selena, there wasn’t many female artist. She was the one opened the door for many other latin female artists. In Tejano music, people couldn’t see women produce good music nor gain popularity.

Anyway, actress Gina Rodriguez, the star of The CW’s comedy-drama “Jane The Virgin” is absolutely doing it. Last year, she won the Golden Globe award for her mesmerizing portrayal of a young woman named Jane Villanueva. This 32-year-old actress inspires with her motivation and self-confidence. She is beautiful inside as she is outside, and she poses as a role model for healthy living for many of us.
Selena Quintanilla was a very successful “Tex-Mex” singer, who, from the beginning of her life to the end of it, had an extraordinary life. After one time of singing to her father, a band was created and she was put into the singing world. Since that day, many journeys occurred. She has performed in many places like Mexico and Texas. She even got married and won a Grammy.
He also supports many other charities. He is having effort by showing up to those charities and donating money to help these people that really need it. Furthermore, he helps a lot with the Latino community. Lopez won an award “Spirit of Liberty Award”, for helping the Latino community. August 2005, he got another award “The 25 most influential Hispanic in America”.
She made six albums between 1987 and 1994. She won a Grammy award for her album, Selena Live, in 1993. Her album, Ven Conmigo, was the first Tejano record to achieve gold status. It sold more than 500,000 copies. At the Tejano Music Awards, she obtained the award for “Best Female Vocalist of the Year and “Performer of the Year”.
In the reading, “(Re)constructing Latinidad: The challenge of Latina/o studies.” it explains the challenge that is, defining what it is to be a Latino in America. In the reading, it gives reasons as to why there is a challenge, examples include how diverse the Latino community is in America and how others in America perceive the Latino community. After reading the article, I saw two main ideas that Aparicio had and they were; redefining what it means to be Latino in America and to show that there are issues in the Latino community that need to be addressed. Then I will provide my reaction based on the ideas I got out of the reading.
Las Vegas is where I was born and raised. That doesn’t mean that I just gave up on my Mexican culture. Like many others, I have a culture that is both American and Mexican. My culture has shaped my values, perceptions, and behaviors. The culture of my family, community, and society has made who I am as a person in numerous ways.
Most people say that high school dropouts do not get very far in life, but Marilyn Monroe has a different story. The very famous and once popular star was not always perfect. She did not have the life that a famous person is expected to have, but she did work her way to becoming famous. Selena Quintanilla-Perez you may or may not heard about her. If you have you know she was known as the queen of Tejano music or known by the media the Tejano Madonna. Even though her life was cut short she continues to live in the hearts of Latino and American community. Selena is a pop icon that has influence me and others because she broke a lot of barriers and had a major impact on the Latino community.
