There is always a journey taken in life to navigate you to your purpose, and there will always be a path taken to the end. In the novel, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life by Wendy Mass, and the poem, “Where the SIdewalk Ends” by Shel Silverstein both demonstrate the journeys taken in life and the path taken to the end. In Jeremey Fink and the Meaning of Life, Jeremy is given the task to open a mysterious box from his dad, but it includes keys that Jeremy doesn’t have. Once Jeremy's birthday rolls around, he and his friend, Lizzy, have found all the missing keys to open the box, which contains rocks from the journey that Jeremey’s dad took at Jeremy’s age. The poem, “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” also demonstrates the journeys taken in life, and the path taken to the end. Each stanza describes a different feeling taken throughout the journey taken to the end. The journey that Jeremy’s dad took at 13 years old, was his journey to the end. Each year of his life, his dad was taken on an adventure that eventually led to his purpose, then the end. There was a letter in Jeremey’s box, and it was from his dad. This letter contained information from his dad’s journey. At the end of the letter, his dad writes about the times he’d think about things like, "How many more times would I see a sunrise over a beach" (Mass para 7). This example explains a part of the journey that Jeremey’s dad took, and the thoughts he had on the path to the end. The overall theme and message of this novel is that everything happens for a
