Emotions. When one thinks of the word "emotion", he or she may think happy, sad, angry, or joyful. However, those are examples of feelings; in which case noramlly refers to someone’s sensibilities, attitude, or emotional perception. In the article, A Change of Heart about Animals, written by Jeremy Rifkin, Rifkin explains how animals are affected with feelings, just as humans are. "They are more like us than we ever imagined, scientists are finding" (1-1). Rifkin states, "many of our fellow creatures are more like us than we had ever imagined" (2-1). After reading this article many, many times, I began to realize that much of the information that he presented had already been exposed to me, yet I never bothered to look deeper within the subject. Animals may not be able to speak, and for that reason, people all around the world automatically think that they cannot feel or do the same as humans can. People will typically jump to conclusions before finding out facts, including myself. Although, Rifkin proclaims that at Purdue University, they examine animal well-being ethics. In his example, he says that this experiment has proven that pigs yearn for attention and "affection", just as we do. Pigs actually experience despair if ignored or neglected. Or possibly one day you're out hanging around your house, and the next day your skin is being purchased in the local store. How does this not seem inhuman to people? Now, I don't believe animals need the right to run for president, or teach the elemetary. Animals do not need equal rights, they do not need to be seen as a toy, as
