My personal opinion on whether or not Joe Paterno should have been fired, have everything taken away from him, including all of his wins and the statute in front of the stadium taken down. Despite the fact, I do not think that Joe should have been fired at all. He did what he was supposed to do, and reported the incident to the next higher upper. Although, could he had done more, of course he could have. Paterno even stated in the film when talking to the bibliographer “I wished I had done more”.
Broken bones, concussions, and even death occurred, while playing football. The mounting injuries caused a division between the college heads and students. The college heads hated it.
To begin with, Salzberg makes a seemly unresearched claim, he claims that “Our universities are providing a free training ground for the super-wealthy owners of professional football teams, while getting little in return”(Salzberg 1). In this quote, he states that universities get little in return, but if one does a little research, the reader can see universities receive a great amount of benefits. For example, colleges can receive money from games in their stadiums whether they win or lose from tickets, concussions, players, and etc. The sports department is a big money makers in universities, not to mention colleges can also can gain publicity, if a player gets famous off the college’s team.
Nevertheless, every authority figure at that time, was just as much to blame as Sandusky for cover up this ungodly act to children. (Fitzpatrick, 2012). Penn State crisis was emotional not just for them it was hot topic for all State College, and leadership for coach. They must not forget about the parents of the children that was Sandusky victim. Consequently, with all the leadership that was remove even legendary football coach Joe Paterno, in this way the healing could start from this crisis at the university of Penn State.
When he had passed they made a statue for him and put all his winning games on plaques behind him then later on taking the whole thing down. What I think what got people the most was them showing the little boy Sandusky had taken advantage of, that really made people feel emotion by seeing how little the boys were and they didn’t know what was really going on. The last big thing that stood out was the mural. It had some emotion drawn towards it because when Sandusky went the trial the painter completely painted over him like he was never there to begin with. Then after Paterno had died the painter drew a halo over him but once things started turning on Paterno and his name started to be taken off things, he removed the halo and later on put a white rose in his hand.
Glen Kramon of the Los Angeles Times wrote an article titled “Football at Stanford? maybe not”(Kramon). The main point he is trying to convey through this article is that Stanford's football program is not efficient and there is really no need for it. The tone he uses to express these thoughts is informative, because he uses strong words and information throughout the article to communicate the main point of the stanford football program collapsing. Kramon’s reason for writing this article is because Stanford was a very dominant team 5 years ago,but it is now in freefall.
Collectively, they publicly sought to deny the existence of a crisis looming at Penn State concerning various allegations levied against Jerry Sandusky. While their true motives for denying allegations in the decade leading up to the crisis may never be known, it is apparent their strategy and actions played a crucial role in what now is unequivocally regarded as a ‘cover-up’ by Penn State University officials. Employment of this strategy was evident in the manner in which Paterno, Spainer, Curley and Schultz ultimately addressed allegations of Sandusky sexually assaulting a young boy on Penn State property in early 2002 – nearly a decade before the crisis erupted in the national
Any issue involving professional sports and athletes is almost guaranteed to be headline news in today’s society. This is particularly true when it comes to the National Football League (NFL), especially when it involves one of the league’s best teams and player. In 2014, during the AFC Championship football game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts, there was a significant controversy that possibly had an impact on the outcome of the game; however, the Patriots went on to win the game 45-7. This controversy involved tampering with the game balls, in particular deflating the footballs, which became known as the Deflategate scandal. Since this scandal has to do with the NFL, one of the game’s best quarterbacks (Tom
Case Study: Mini-Case-Scandal at Penn State Once a model citizen and former Pennsylvania State University football coach, Jerry Sandusky also had a dark secret that finally caught up with him (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013). In 1977, Jerry Sandusky created a group foster home for troubled boys called, The Second Mile. The foster home grew into a non-profit organization that “helped young people to achieve their potential as individuals and community members (Crandall, Parnell, & Spillan, 2013).”
The remuneration of the coach shows how the management of football universities is out of control and how it undermines the integrity of schools and diverts the presidents of universities of their true vocation. The details built appeal to logos and impress upon the reader that this is a problem worth discussing. “That $ 2 million should have been spent on, well, how about educating the students?” (10). He makes the audience realize that is just
Though we’ve lately lived through the scandals of the Catholic Church and Major League Baseball, the unmasking of megaministers and Wall Street Titans, and the pratfalls of John Edwards and Tiger Woods, our serial susceptibility to bogus
Another reason that it would be bad for college athletes to be paid is because the colleges would build a bad reputation for being all about the money and not about education. Already, some colleges are accused of using money to influence players into going to their school. "If a high-school football prodigy reported that he chose Michigan not for its academic quality, tradition, or beautiful campus but because it outbid all other suitors, a connection to the university’s values would be lost." (Yankah). Ever since the first college institutions were founded, they were either known for their academics or athletics.
The Volleyball Monster Usually my volleyball team has practice on Sunday’s, Tuesday’s, and Thursday’s, but that changed when someone or something stole all of the volleyball equipment. Who ever it was they stole EVERYTHING including, nets, balls, water, knee pads, and anything else they used. They had nothing! People call it the’”Volleyball Monster”. Let me explain how this all went down.
