Jesse James biography Jesse woodson James was a legendary thief and outlaw in the old American west , living his life recklessly. He was born on september 5th 1847 in Missouri. Jesse was raised on a farm with his siblings learning the prestigious farming life. For most of his childhood he was happy until his father left him forever at age 16 and his other remarried. He relied on farming but in 1863 his family's farm was attacked by the union soldiers. He and his brother Frank James served in the confederate army during the civil war as ¨Guerrilla soldiers¨. Some historians have said that the brutal treatment in the union towards the James brothers may have guided them into the life of crime.
