All throughout the New Testament, we are exposed to many great people who have impacted and shaped the kingdom of God. These people show us by example how to follow
Jesus Christ, they let us learn from their mistakes, and they allowed the Holy Spirit to speak through them when writing the New Testament Scriptures. These heroes include people like
Matthew, John, Mary, Paul and so many others, but one that has been speaking to me lately is
Peter.
Peter was the most casual, normal, boring thing you could be during the time Jesus walked the earth, he was a fisherman, yet ended up being called to fish for something much greater than fish, but God’s chosen people.

He is a perfect example of God not only forgiving anyone no matter how far gone you are through Jesus’ blood, but also shows us that God can use literally anybody, even a fisherman, to make a difference in the world.

We see Peter in Luke 22, denying to know and be a follower of Jesus, whom loved Him very much, and considered Him like a brother. Yes, while this is a tragic mistake, everything happens for a reason and Jesus even predicted this. By Jesus being rejected on this night, we can identify with Jesus having the spirit of rejection, as so many times we often feel. So while Peter messed up, God still used it to our benefit and to His glory.
Peter also took on a spirit of shame. We see him in Luke 5, tell Jesus in verse 8, “Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!” So many times we as people relate to this feeling. We feel as though our sin disqualifies us from being a part of something great, or like we our not worthy to be in God’s presence because of it. Well, we are not. But, because of what Jesus did for us on the cross, we can enjoy His presence whenever and wherever, free of all shame. In this light, we see that even though Peter felt shame, He dropped everything to follow Jesus
