For this exam project we both decided on representing Jesus through Matthew’s Christology. Throughout the entire book of Matthew, he portrays Christ as a teacher above all other titles. Matthew’s entire book is written for a Jewish Christian audience after the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed. Matthew had to show that Jesus was a teacher because he needed people to know that they can listen to and learn from the Messiah. We thought this was a very important point and had to create an abstract visual of Jesus as a teacher. The philosophical meaning behind the visual may not be so obvious to others so here is some further explanation on the symbolism. Jesus is represented using different faces of cut-out magazines, this illustrates the idea that He is a part of every person on Earth and we are all apart of Jesus. We used this passage because we thought that it really captured Jesus as a teacher and Him doing so many other important jobs he has as our savior. The next bible verse we used was Matthew 7:28 which reads, “When Jesus had finished these words, the crowds were amazed at His teaching;”. This was such an important passage for us to use because when it is read, there is an amazing feeling that Jesus’ teachings really moves people and changes them. The last bible verse we used was “for He was teaching them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.” Matthew 7:29.
