Elie is a very religious person in Chapter 1 of Night. According to page 4, Elie wants to find a master who could guide him in his studies of Kabbalah even though his father does not want him to study it. He went out of his way to find someone who could teach him and was unhappy when he could not find a master according to page 5. That shows that he is very interested in learning and wants to understand the secrets of Jewish mysticism. Page 4 also told us that Elie cries when he pray, Elie said “I cried because… because something inside me felt the need to cry.” That proved that Elie is truly passionate about his religion and when he prays to his God.
