The Jewish War, also occasionally called The Great Revolt, happened during the years 66 through 73 C.E. (Freedman 848). During this Common Era the Jews from the Judea Province caused a rebellion against the Roman Empire. This lead to a major catastrophe and was a terrible mistake on both sides of the rebellion. There were a number of reasons why these two groups clashed. Beginning with corrupt officials, social hostility and socioeconomic concerns.
The Jews were taken by surprise. They had a false sense of security on what was happening. In document B paragraph 2 its states “ That They were brought into the ghetto and were much better fed than we were”. This created a false sense of security because there treating them better than the outside world. In document B it says “they had more supplies and Jewish police.
Week One Jewish Struggle against Hellenism Response Antiochus Epiphanes IV was a Greek Hellenistic king, and it was under his reign that Hellenism advanced throughout the region influencing every aspect of Jewish life except when it came to Judaism. According to Roetzel (2002), “Antiochus’s complete contempt for Judaism is, in fact, evident in the way he manipulated the high priestly office” (p. 12). Antiochus’s underhanded ploy to subversively control the priesthood only caused more contention among the traditional Jews. The contention between the traditional Jews and those who were compromising their religious beliefs with a pagan religion was on the brink of erupting into a civil war.
In the eleven documents we’ve viewed, its easy to see that the Germans have taken away basic human rights of the Jewish people. They've abused and practically tortured these poor Jewish people. Not to mention, the Jewish people have done nothing wrong to the Germans or Hitler, they just blamed them for the hyperinflation. Lastly, These Jewish people have a right to live their lives to the fullest and to the best of their ability and the Germans ripped that away from them. And once again, they did nothing wrong.
After reading The Gifts of the Jews by Thomas Cahill, I was able to see how the Jews have truly influenced society today. From the progression of agricultural discoveries to the notion of human freedom, I felt that every idea made an impact one way or another. Of the many gifts that the Jews’ have shared, the one most meaningful to me is the concept of how it is our choice to decide whether or not we are going to allow ourselves to become consumed by the various sufferings in life. We should let these hardships “refine us...and to shape us into a fitting instrument for [God’s] revelation, as he did Moshe.” People should move forward, instead of being stuck in the past.
From 1880 to 1924, to escape persecution from Alexander the II’s reign and anti-Semitism, Russian Jews came to America for a chance at a new life, and for economic reasons. They were one of the biggest groups of Eastern Europeans that arrived to Ellis Island. A vast majority of the Jews settled on the East coast in places such as the Lower East Side, Boston, and Philadelphia, and other bigger cities including Chicago, Seattle and Des Moines. The jobs Russian Jews held were mostly low skilled trades, such as tailors, butcher, or even worked in the early sweatshops, stated by Epstein, “By 1900, about two hundred thousand Jews were in the garment industry on the Lower East Side.” The primary reason Russian Jews left to immigrate to America was to escape Anti-Semitism from their ruler, Czar Nicholas II, rumored to have been killed by Jews.
“How could it be possible for them to be burning people and children and for the world to keep silent”. During the World War II, the Nazi party, under the leadership of Adolf Hitler wanted to kill all the Jews in Europe, The Nazis and their collaborators murdered six million Jewish people, including one and a half million children. This terrible period in history is now referred to as the Holocaust. It is hard to care about the suffering of a group of people who are out cast, seen as the “other”espically when violence is threaten if one stands out. One significant reason why the world stayed silent while jews were exterminated is because leader of major countries feared war.
Jesus is at the center of believers’ life and worship style. Believers are justified by faith, and they are not under the supervision of the law (Gal 3:24-25). However, all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Tim 3:16). Believers have to understand the Jewish roots of their faith. Learning about the Jewish roots of Christianity can transform believers’ understanding of Scripture.
In the Judaism religion, there is a single objective truth on how God operates the universe. An objective truth is a truth that is based on reality and no matter how different people think of it; it remains objective. What is this single objective truth? The single objective truth is the one that requires that things should operate in a single manner no matter the disputes that may arise. This truth should be followed without question; we can consider this single objective truth to be absolute.
Survivors of the Holocaust After the war against the Nazis, there were very few survivors left. For the survivors returning to life to when it was before the war was basically impossible. They tried returning home but that was dangerous also, after the war, anti-Jewish riots broke out in a lot of polish cites. Although the survivors were able to build new homes in their adopted countries. The Jewish communities had no longer existed in much part of Europe anymore.
Holocaust signifies“sacrifice by fire”. The Germans thought that they were “superior” to all other races. They claimed that they had encountered a “final solution” to the “problem” of racial disparity. Germans targeted other groups because of their perceived "racial inferiority". They targeted Gypsies, disabled, Poles and Russians.
“No human race is superior; no religious faith is inferior. All collective judgments are wrong. Only racists make them” (Wiesel). The atrocities of the Holocaust were horrible and grotesque, and even today people continue to wonder with pessimistic awe what the persecuted people of the Holocaust era had to endure. We all try and “put ourselves in survivors’ shoes” as a way of showing sympathy and kindness, but in reality, we can’t do that.
Air Safety” also written back in 2002 by Elisa Ben-Rafael. The article is about the lack of security right after the 9/11 attack, and Elisa felling’s about that nobody has taken this serious. Elisa is saying in her article that the security standards in America compared to her home country, Israel, are very low. But when it comes to frisking, Elisa feels the same as Shashi Tharoor - Humiliating.

Judaism was founded by Abraham, Isaac, and Moses, and it is the original Abrahamic religion. There are around 14 million followers of Judaism today, and these people are called Jews. Judaism is a monotheistic religion, Jews believe that there is only one God. They believe that God created the universe and continue to effect everything in the world. They believe that every Jew can have a personal relationship with God.
