On May 29th, 1917, John F. Kennedy, also known as JFK, was born into a wealthy family in Brookline, Massachusetts. He married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, and together they had 3 children. He was elected the 35th president of the United States, and he was the youngest president at the time (Manchester). He was a military hero, serving in the U.S. Navy in WWII. As president, he resolved many issues in the Cold War, and he supported civil rights. Kennedy did not live a long life, but his contributions to America and the world make him MVP worthy. During the fall in 1941, Kennedy enlisted in the Navy, and 2 years later he was sent to the South Pacific. There, he was given control of the boat PT-109. Shortly after becoming the commander of this boat, he along with fifteen other PT boats were sent to bomb Japanese ships. During the time of his presidency, women and African-Americans were often discriminated against, and seen as less than their white male counterparts. Kennedy believed that all people should be treated equally, He put African-Americans into positions in his administration, and enforced current laws regarding civil rights (Manchester). In many cases, Kennedy addressed civil rights situations as they occurred, as it was less risky. Kennedy helped create the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which banned segregation in public places and banned employment based on race, gender, religion, etc. Kennedy's presidency was a short one, only lasting for three years. On November 22, 1963, John and Jackie landed in Dallas, Texas. His party was traveling to Kennedy’s next speaking, which was at the Dallas Trade Mart.
