The Glorious Gibson For well over five decades, Gibson electric guitars and amplifiers have had a tremendous influence on the way the world composes, plays, and listens to music. Guitarists, in the early part of this century played country, folk, or blues on acoustic guitars. In the 1930's Jazz musicians experimented with amplifying traditional hollow-body guitars so they could play with other instruments at the same sound level. Since the beginning, Gibson's innovative way of advertising, eye for style and consumer wants is what made the marketing team on of the best in the industry. This, and the print advertisements caused an uproar in for the need of for aesthetic sensation. In fowles article he states, “ Advertisers know there is little chance of good communication occurring if an ad is not visually appealing. Consumers may not be aware of the extent of their own sensitivity to art work.”(Fowles 553). In these two Gibson Guitar Ad’s there were occurring themes in both of them. The V guitar ad was simpler than the Custom. The ad for the V shaped guitar shows it’s a guitar shaped to resemble the United States with the words “ American-made. World-played.” It is very aesthetically pleasing with the yellow accent color seeping through the black background. Also generally when selling products to Americans that was made in america the product sale goes up and the look of professionalism increases in many American consumers eyes. This phenomenon then causing the need to give back to american made companies and the general aesthetic of these goods skyrockets. The other advertisement incorporates a black background with a neon pink guitar and bright yellow and white words. The bottom of the advertisement says, “ Every Les Guitar player in the world will want to add the new Les Custom Guitar to their collection of professional weapons.” This advertisement, while showing the need for aesthetic sensation, also has the need to affiliated because it is saying that everyone will want them, thus making everyone want to by them. It also gives the reader a cool visual about having an arsenal of guitars used as “weapons” and increases aesthetic want by adding to the visualization of the decade and
