Jimmy Carter once said, "The measure of a society is found in how they treat their weakest and most helpless citizens." President Carter did many amazing things for the people in and outside the United States. He is an overall amazing human being. Jimmy Carter was the 39th president of the United States. Right after President Nixon stepped down after his involvement in the Watergate scandal. As president, Carter made sure that the American people trusted him. He gained it by doing things that no other president had done before. He used this trust to achieve many accomplishments. So the question most frequently asked is, did goodness or grit help Jimmy Carter achieve his accomplishments? This is shown in Document C when Carter says that a clear conscience is always preferable to lying and cheating. This signifies the fact that Carter is a good president because he stuck to his morals. Secondly, Jimmy Carter's faith in his religion aided him in fulfilling his goals because his faith taught him to have a clear conscience and this meant not lying to people. He spoke openly about his faith and many people trusted him because of it. As stated in Document C when Carter stated that having a clear conscience could help him do his job as president.
