J.K. Rowling Joanne Rowling was on July 31, 1965 in Chipping Sodbury in Gloucestershire, England. Joanne would later in her life become one of the top ten best authors of her generation. The most well known series that she wrote is of a young boy named Harry Potter and his adventures of learning magic. With three children she is an inspiring single mother after her terrible abusive relationship. But the question is where did all of this begin? Even though she writes under J.K. Rowling her name before her remarriage was Joanne Rowling. Joanne was born to Peter Rowling, an aircraft engineer, and Anne Rowling, a scientist. “They'd met on a train when Peter was serving in the Navy and Anne in the Wrens (Women's Royal Naval Service), and settled in a village near the industrial city of Bristol.” Two years later would be born Joanne’s younger sister Dianne. For secondary school she went to Wyedean School and College, Where her mother had worked for the school’s science department. During school Rowling maintained A-levels in her English, French, and german classes, and was the head girl of the school. Rowling applied for the Oxford University exams but wasn’t accepted, but earned a bachelors at the University of Exeter. Once out of college Rowling knew that she had always wanted to be an author.
