Noah Gautreaux Ms. Champagne English II 15 October 2015 J.K. Rowling Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born in Chipping Sodbury, a town in Gloucestershire, England on July 31, 1965. She did many things before she became famous as a writer. J.K. Rowling went to college at Exeter University, spent a year studying in Paris, and graduated with a French and Classics degree (Biography). Rowling was an English professor in Portugal, and worked as a researcher and bilingual secretary for Amnesty International (J.K. Rowling 2199). She earned her fame in 1997 under the name J.K. It consists of seven large novels narrated in third about a young wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. They are all students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry Potter and his friends seeks to defeat Lord Voldemort, who killed his parents and wants to take control of the wizard world (J.K. Rowlin 2202-2204). The books in the series are Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Biography). Bullying is seen throughout the book, but especially with Draco Malfoy and his cronies. For example, Ron faces discrimination because his family is poor, Hermione is deemed a know-it-all, and Harry is put down for his fears. Freindship is represented with the trio remaining friends through their trials and tribulations. Through Dumbledore’s differences, a theme of understanding comes to light. He is kind to all regardless of whether they are a wizard, giant, etc., and is also very generous and hopeful in people, like when he employed Professor Lupin, Professor Snape, and Hagrid. Evil is shown through Voldemort but is relieved by humor. For example, when Voldemort is threatening a return in Goblet of Fire, harry offers comic relief by donating some money he was awarded to the Weasley’s in order to make them feel a little bit better about the situation (“What is it” par. 11, 13-15).
