“I am not afraid... I was born to do this” I picked this quote of Joan of Arc because she does not give up even though she is afraid. A French saint and a hero in the Hundred Years' war was Joan of Arc an important figure in World History because this farm girl helped save the French from English rule and was called the Maid Orleans and the Maid of France. She inspired the French and led them to many victories. Joan of Arc was born on January 6, 1412 into a French tenant farmer in the village of Domrémy, in northeastern France. The father of Joan of Arc was Jacques d’Arcy and her mom was Isabelle Romee. She was also influenced by her mother because she was a devoted catholic and she showed her the teaching of the Catholic Church. When Joan of Arc joined the battle of Orléans, the tides went in their favor of France. King Charles give Joan weapons and a small army. On April 27, 1429, she set out for Orleans, that taken hold by the English since October 1428. On April 29, as a French group distracted the English troops on the west side of Orleans, as Joan entered its eastern gate. She brought supplies and reinforcements that were needed and also inspired the French to win. Joan took the lead for several battles and on May 7 she was hit by an arrow. After getting hit by the arrow she took care of her wound and returned to the fight, and later the French won that battle. On May 8, the English retreated from Orleans and France won the war. In May 1430, while leading a military expedition against the remaining English soldiers in France, Bourguignon soldiers kidnapped Joan and sold her to the English, who tried her for heresy. Later on she was burned alive at the stake. Joan of Arc made a huge impact in a military stand point because she was a women in the military. Back then they were not allowed to be in the military.
