Joan of Arc who was also known as ‘The Maid of Orleans’ was a peasant girl who lived in France during the medieval period. She was born sometime during 1412, which during that time, a war against England and France, the Hundred Years’ War was occurring over the succession of the French throne. Joan of Arc is well known throughout the world today for leading a French army and gaining victory against the English and their allies. Explanation Joan of Arc was born in 1412 to Jacques d’Arc, a tenant farmer, and his wife Isabelle in Domremy in north-western France. As she was growing up, Joan of Arc was quite an ordinary girl but she was a hard worker with traits such as mental and physical courage. These were the voices belonging to St Michael, St Catherine and St Margaret. They told her to help the Dauphin of France, Charles, gain the throne and defeat the English. These voices and belief had a great impact on Joan of Arc’s career as they lead her and France to victory against the English armies fighting against the French. This also allowed the coronation ceremony for the Dauphin, later King Charles VII, to take place. In addition, her courage and strength was important as well. We particularly see this in her unwavering bravery in her battles and against the ridicule she had faced. These traits were important to her career as she often faced with disbelief and suspicion when she announced that the voices in her head were going to lead her to victory. An example of this is shown when she confronted local magistrate, Robert de Baudricourt to join the armies fighting against the English in 1429. Although she was just laughed and dismissed, she came back again with the support of some local leaders and was able to
