Super Bowl Three is one to remember, especially if you are a New York Jets fan. On January 12, 1969, Super Bowl Three takes place in Florida where the New York Jets play the Baltimore Colts. A bold prediction however is made by New York Jets player, Joe Namath, who seems certain that he knows the outcome of the Super Bowl game. Namath tells reporters and media coverage his prediction, which his prediction ends up being accurate. Current coach of the New York Jets, Todd Bowles, wants to see his team succeed with the mind set of “One Team, One Goal”. Coach Bowles states, “’It’s daily motivation,’ Bowles recently told The Associated Press. ‘When you feel sorry for yourselves and think you can’t go the extra mile, that’s the goal we’re trying to get to: One Team, One Goal.’” (Press n.pag.). In the team’s training facility located in Florham Park, New Jersey, the Lombardi Trophy sits in the entrance from the only Super Bowl win and appearance for the franchise. The players asked the franchise for the trophy to be visible for the players regularly. The current Jets players can now see the Lombardi trophy next to the mannequin of Joe Namath wearing a number twelve jersey (Press n.pag.). Coach Bowles feels that the overall dynamic and mindset of the Jets football team needs readjusted and reminded of the great players that came before them. Namath’s prediction resonates with the Jets franchise because the team has come close to returning four times in forty-eight years since Super Bowl Three (Glauber n.pag.). Before the Jets won the Super Bowl, the American Football League was not accredited or appreciated. With the “underdog” win over the Colts, the Jets proved the American Football League could compare with the bigger league also known as The National Football League.
