The Noble Feat of Nike? The article “The Noble Feat of Nike” by Johan Norberg is to show us the impact of Nike on third world countries like Vietnam. It is a well published topic about multinational companies like Nike that are making huge profits while paying their employees next to nothing. A Lot of people find this unethical and some even brand it as slavery, which has led to a boycott of Nike. This article gives the reader an insight on how companies like Nike gain maximum profit by being located in a third world country or in a communist country like Vietnam. Nike maximize its profit by paying the employees in such countries a fraction of what they have to pay in their home countries by taking advantage of their poverty, but the author calls Nike noble because he claims that Nike at least provides these people with an air conditioned building, regular wages, meal plan opportunities and training to operate machinery. Many of the workers consider it as beneficial to work there since they make double to five times as much in wages compared to working outdoors on a farm. However, the author forgets to mention the economic point of view of this situation with more and more people wanting to work for multinational companies’ local farming and companies will get effected in a huge way and the country’s economy will not improve.
