John 8 brings excitement to the streets of Jerusalem. Life as she knew it would soon come to an end. The adulterous woman was moments away from being a public display of humiliation. She was a pawn in the game of life. What happened to her happens to us but in different ways. We may not be forced through a street scantily clothed, but we are publicly humiliated. Our accuser presses charges and stands before God in a feeble effort to condemn our lives. It is as if he has nothing better to do than destroy the saints. It is certainly to take us out of the game, but his ultimate focus is to hurt the heart of God. It will not be Him who will drag us through the street to experience public humiliation, but if it will make us stronger as we open our eyes to our sin, He may allow it.
