John Brown was born on May 9, 1800 in Torrington, CT. John Brown had 11 kids and he was an abolitionist he had a fervent hatred of slavery led him to seize the United States arsenal at Harpers Ferry in October 1859. It is widely believed his intention was to arm slaves for a rebellion, though he denied that. John Brown’s father, Owen Brown was also against slavery. They were both very religious and wanted everyone to live the same life ,so John helped the slaves be free. According to my first source John Brown helped build the underground railroad for the slaves to take, so they can retreat to the North where they can be free and have the same rights as others because they were forced into being slaves. According to my source the way people see John Brown depends on how the person see’s John Brown. The United States believed in freedom while the confederates want slaves to do there work. The people who acknowledge him were the Americans a.k.a the Northerners. They liked what Brown did to help the slaves while the Americans praised him the Southerners despised him. In my source Northerners say "I believe," he said in a speech that electrified many Northerners who later read it, "that to have interfered as I have done in behalf of His despised poor, is no wrong, but right”. The americans know that what Brown did to help the slaves escape was the right thing to do because all they want is for everyone to be happy and free.
