Bonhoeffer in this chapter talks about the call to discipleship that is given to all believers, something that is irresistible from God himself. He breaks down Jesus’ talk with the rich young ruler, and talks about how the ruler instead follows in his own self-conceit instead of submitting to the will of the Christ himself. In doing this, he would not be fulfilling the law, but instead be obeying a direct call from Christ to come and follow him, something he will not do because of his great possessions. I love how Bonhoeffer explains this story, because he breaks down the true meaning of the rich young ruler, and gets to the heart of the problem that many lay people would not understand through reading the story and the immediate context. In the first section of Chapter 1 of Encountering God: A Spiritual Journey from Bozeman to Banaras, the author Diana Eck discusses her personal experience from exploring the encounter of Bozeman and Banaras. Document 1 depicts the leader of the Chinese Communist party, Mao Zedong,’s written report that describes peasants’ strong nationalism. His written report uses strong words as “corrupt” and “evil” which describes peasants’ enemies, such as officials and landowners. Mao wanted to uprise the sense of nationalism by mentioning the peasants’ enemies. However, Mao Zedong is the leader of the Chinese Communist Party, so he might exaggerated the state of peasants in order to gain trusts from the peasants. According to document 2, a sense of nationalism is shown in the discussion between a teenaged peasant and his grandfather.

He is a 16-year-old boy from Maine. The only one competing from Maine, where the long walk takes place, and is supported by big crowds of people.
Christopher Columbus as we know is the historical person credited for the discovery of the New World. Zheng He was a Hui-Chinese mariner, explorer, diplomat and fleet admiral, who commanded voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Each men and their fleets had two completely different reason for their travel. Christopher Columbus purpose was to find a new trade way to the Asian countries. Zheng He's purpose was to enlarge empires control of seaway trade.
The Second Industrial Revolution presented many hardships to immigrants looking for a better life in America. In his book, The Uprooted, Oscar Handlin makes the case for immigrants enduring the hardships adjusting to the American culture and economy. His argument is supported by specific statistics and events that damaged these people. These newcomers’ ideas, beliefs, and cultures were affected as well. Immigrants faced with American culture and commerce had to adjust their own in order to survive.
Chapter six examines the anti-Chinese sentiment with the emerging class antagonism and turmoil between white capitalists and workers. The unwelcomed arrival of Chinese immigrants brought along their own social organizations such as the huiguan, fongs, and tongs. These types of social organizations secured areas of employment and housing for Chinese immigrants in California. This social structure that was unknown to Anglos led them to also categorize Chinese on the same level as Indians by depicting them as lustful heathens whom were out to taint innocent white women. These images were also perpetuated onto Chinese women, thus, also sexualizing them as all prostitutes.
Behind these small settings lays a few more important geographical aspect to Of Mice and Men. The book was published in 1937, during
Jacques Cartier was a French explorer who was sent to the new world in search of a passageway to the East. Between 1535 and 1541 he explored the St. Lawrence River. Thinking he found the way to east, he went on three voyages through the St. Lawrence before deciding that it was not the way to the East. His first voyage was forced to close when a storm hit. His crew became sick with scurvy on the second, and they had to stay with a friendly Indian tribe while over half his crew suffered and died.
World War II had lots of hard work to be done, and most of it was taken out on Jewish and Japanese people. The Japanese were put into internment camps, and the Jewish people in concentration camps. Not only was it the Jewish people, but people with mental illnesses, disabilities, and people who were homosexual. Anyone who was different was put into concentration camps. Even though they are similar, concentration and internment camps aren’t the same because one was out of fear, the other hatred, ‘actions’ versus ‘reactions’, and the Japanese had opportunities, while the Jewish didn’t.
It came to dominate my understanding of the discussion on the social and historical scene and to restrict my ability to participate in that discussion.(444) If we go back and use the reference again of the electronic tool we can see the struggle of being at home and communicating with her family and having an influence of capitalistic viewpoints and living the life of a capitalist, then immediately having to communicate in a different language at school and being surrounded by socialistic views and living the life of a socialist. If we bring all these struggles into one main purpose, Min-Zhan Lu’s mother falls into silence two months before her death and Min-Zhan Lu attempts to “fill up that silence with words that I have since come to by reflecting on my earlier experience as a student in China.(437) The struggles that she faced growing up in China as a student and her past experiences have really helped her overcome life obstacles and develop her as a better reader and writer.
He starts with a chapter on the Wan-li Emperor before branching out into focusing on his underlings in the government. For each character, he lists their successes along with their background before reaching the controversy that inevitably surrounds them, leading to their downfall. Throughout the chapters, it becomes noticeable that many of the controversies arise due to Chang Chü-cheng, an imperial tutor and formerly, highly respected grand-secretary to Wan-li. After being disgraced after death, anyone associated with him in government immediately came under suspicion and eventually got ousted. Many of the following chapters focused on characters who fit such a description, like General Chi’ Chi-Kuang and Li Chih.
Polo was known as best known long distance traveler during the Mongol time. Polo and his father traded by legal traders who wanted to trade silk and precious stones. When he was seventeen years old he travelled to China around 1271, along with his father and uncle, and had explored about 20 countries and amongst the places he explored was India and he remained in China for 17 years working aside Kublai Khan the grandson of Genghis Khan. Because of his lack of intellect when he was arrested he would create a story telling narrative to entertain his audience. This audience is believed to be his sell mates, and through one of the cell mates whom had written down the stories, and the result of this came to be known as the travels of Marco Polo.
