John Buford’s Role in the Battle of Gettysburg John Buford played a crucial role in the process of winning the bloodiest and arguably, most important battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Gettysburg. Many people have a pretty basic understanding on the legendary outlaws such as Billy the Kid, Jesse James and Butch Cassidy, but clearly one of the legendary long-forgotten outlaws doesn’t get enough credit. This legendary outlaw is obviously John Wesley Hardin, who was an outlaw in the Old West. He was a cowboy, who killed many people on the Chisolm trail. He was also someone who had no control over his unreasonable anger issues. John Wesley Hardin has many aspects of himself that need to be broken down into pieces to help the understanding of him become exceptional.
Pete Earley brings a mixture of historical context, personal story, and investigative journalism together to create a powerful narrative. Earley's writing is earnest and intelligent and remains unbiased when writing about the mental health system. “Crazy” is a two-part creation. You have the personal narrative of the author’s experience with his son who suffers a mental breakdown interwoven with his reporting from a year observing how mentally ill prisoners are treated at the Miami-Dade County Jail. Earley followed a select number of cases through the courts tracing their progress in and out of custody, interviewing judges, lawyers, psychiatrists, patient advocates and those who suffer from mental illness, and the families and friends affected.
He calls for reform to the entire curricular system, mentioning how cooperative learning is far more effective if the focus is on delivery and method, instead of formal structure and content. He concludes the current formal content-based system is a result of the devaluing of education in favor of degrees, and that the university’s method
The essay Black Men and Public Space by Brent Staples is very relatable to my life. I feel that it is easy to follow the essay since I live a similar life to Brent Staples every day because I am also African American. I read the everyday conflicts Staples goes through during his life in Chicago and New York and it was almost like I was him. Staples talks about how his skin color and the way he looks makes him seem like a threat to the general public. It seems that it is human nature to generalize and stereotype based on race or the way someone looks.
Brent Staples’s essay, “Just Walk on By: A Black Man and Public Space”, is about the “ability” that a black man holds; which as Staples puts it, is the “ability to alter public space in ugly ways.” African American men, or people for that matter, have stated (even in present day) that they feel the same way. This, among other factors has contributed to the fact that this essay has become very popular among different communities. As the writing prompt states, the essay has been anthologized, and obviously placed in One Hundred Great Essays. For reasons unknown, this particular essay has caught the eye of many.

Little known to most scholars, Collin College has a full online library with the same resources as its on campus counterpart. John Leonard is the Distance Learning and Digital Services Librarian at Collin College. In the online orientation, Library Anywhere, Leonard explains that Collin College wants to give online scholars the same resources that any student on campus would have, including a library.

The subjects taught in the arts and history section of liberal arts programs across the universities in America revolve around the importance of culture and an ethical understanding of how the world works. This not only helps in self-development but also in the growing job industry where an understanding of ethics and communication plays an equally important role as the skills involving the job. Per Robert Thompson Jr., “Practical liberal education reflects the intentional integration of the traditional liberal education focus on developing intellectual and personal skills with the traditional professional and technical focus on solving complex problems” (2014). Moreover, history, art and political studies impart the ideas regarding the progression of human civilization and tradition. In times of globalization there is a greater need for us to understand the relationship that exists between countries of varying political standing.
