John Curtin
John Curtin was an outstanding individual dedicated to a better Australia. Often described as serious and stern, these characteristics helped him to be the great leader he was during the nation’s toughest times. He was hard working and never stopped fighting for what he believed was right. The combination of these has made him one of the country’s most recognisable Prime Ministers today. This essay will explore how he rose through the ranks: from being an average child in WA to becoming wartime Prime Minister, and his determination and tenacity to overcome the fate of Australia.
Curtin was born into a disadvantaged and poor family in Perth, he attended three different schools across Australia, and he was not exactly a “genius child” - he was at the standard of the other students but held a reserved interest in reading, AFL and soccer. The Prime Minister of Australia changed Australia, the world and himself with his actions and choices. ‘Which will give to our country some confidence of being able to hold out until the tide of battle swings against our enemy.’ Rest aside the obvious, (the military defence of Australia), Curtin was differential in a number of factors, including rights, more of them for more people. He introduced better and improved healthcare, and more welfare services. It was not just what he did but how he did it, a pride for his country, determination and it is that as well as what he bought to the tables is why we remember John Curtin today. He made influential key decisions shaping the country that reflect Australia today. The world as well will remember him for his leadership whether the country at the time agreed or disagreed for it was the pivotal point of getting it done, without mucking around, his methods, vigorous and hearty speeches that he is remembered for
