Rockefeller retired from the daily operations of running one of the world’s largest businesses in eighteen ninety-five, when John D. Rockefeller was 56 years old, John D. Rockefeller kept himself busy with charitable events, becoming one of the more respected philanthropists in history. His money helped pay for the University of Chicago in eighteen ninety-two, to which John D. Rockefeller gave more than $80 million before his death. John D. Rockefeller helped created. In total he gave away more than $530 million to various causes and service centers.
