1. What governance approach did John Deere appear to have adopted? Did it fit the profile of an ‘old” heavy industry player?
John Deere adopted an Ecosystem Governance method because they tried to create a united information platform about agriculture production. In the world which has been increasing demand for food, the agriculture industry plays a major role in the business field. John Deere’s platform in the digital ecosystem would be a worth for anybody who is linked to this industry since they allow users access to the major platform which ties up all valuable information about equipment, production data, and farm operations and helps users improve their profitability. In fact, old and heavy industry players do not fit such an equitable and real time-based system. Big players in any field always try to make everything secret and hidden, and the main information access mostly opens for only big players. However, John Deere’s platform made an important change throughout the industries and it might affect big, medium and small players’ status to be switched.

What difficulties do you think an “old” heavy industry player such as John Deere encountered internally when proposing to develop the My John Deere platform? According to multinational management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company, this platform is the new way of data resource for anybody in the industry. United information system allows users to become a stronger competitor in the field. In fact, an old and traditional way of agricultural production and sales would get a great challenge from this system. Everybody can have same data and information access allows everybody have the same level of information benefits regardless traditional major competitor status.
