John F. Kennedy (president of the United States in 1962) addressed his doubters and big corporations in his passive news conference over rising steel prices on April 10,1962. Kennedy not only threatened the safety of Americans, he also condemned corporations in order to deflect the economic decline off himself. The citizens of the United States of America needed someone to blame as the steel prices increased, and the domino effect of increased cost of living, automobiles, appliances, and tools occurred. Kennedy believed steel companies were selfishly raising the steel prices, even though the production cost was low. Thus, not only is Kennedy threatening the security of his country, he is also warning about the decline of the American economy and money system. John F. Kennedy condemned the big corporations for making profit while the rest of the nation suffered. Kennedy used straightforward detail in order to put down big corporations as being selfish. Mr. President “asked the steel companies” what they “would do for his country” over steel prices and the economy falling. Kennedy stated that “in the last 24 hours”, within the steep increase in steel currency, “we had their answer”. The steel companies’ answer was that they had “ruthless disregard” about America, themselves, and “their public responsibilities. The big corporations were making “600 million dollars in each of the last five years”, the companies were making huge profit off of the economies decline and their own peoples money.
