I am writing to apply for the position of Assistant Director of the Student Success Center (SSC) at Johns Hopkins University (JHU). I hold a doctor of philosophy degree in Foreign, Second, and Multilingual Language Education (within the TESOL program) with an interdisciplinary specialization in Educational Technology. Through graduate coursework, I have learned the processes of foreign and second (English) language acquisition, TESOL teaching methods and theories, and the design of TESOL curricula, courses, teaching materials, and assessment. In addition, I have learned to effectively design and teach online courses through taking various graduate courses (e.g., Visualizing Curriculum, Computer Applications in Education, and Teaching Online Courses). I also have hands-on experience in employing several online learning management systems (e.g., Desire 2 Learn and Canvas) to design and teach online courses (e.g., training courses for Content and ESL teachers in Ohio) and utilizing online meeting systems (e.g., Adobe Connect and WCOnline) to give writing tutorials to diverse students at OSU’s Center for the Study and Teaching of Writing (CSTW). Moreover, my research interests include computer-assisted language teaching and learning. I often incorporate technology into my English teaching. Furthermore, taking research courses and undertaking research equipped me to teach qualitative and quantitative research courses for students at JHU.
