In this story “ By the Waters of Babylon”, we find out later in the story that the character’s name is John. He is the son of a priest. He is John son of John. John is the protagonist in the story. In the beginning of the story you see that John’s father is a priest and he is going through houses looking for metal in the Dead Places. After they were done there, John felt that it was time for him to become a priest. He wanted to go on a journey and his father informed him to never go east as it is forbidden. “ It is forbidden to go east. It is forbidden to cross the river. It is forbidden to go to the Places of the God. All these things are forbidden.” But, that didn’t stop him from going east. He was courageous and he went east. Next, John goes exploring the buildings or high towers and stumbles upon a building that he thinks is a temple.
