John White John White, who was assumed to be born around the year 1540, is a well known British artist and cartographer, and is also known as the governor of the second English expedition of the Roanoke Islands. Very little is known about White’s life before his creations of art began and after he returned back to England from his discovery of the lost colony, but the time period that is marked by those two life experiences are the ones that John White is famous for. White’s first trip to America was on 1577 when he came aboard the ship Aid whose mission was to find precious metals and a passage to Asia, neither of which were achieved. Although the actual mission of the ship failed, White was able to draw detailed sketches of the people and the land they encountered.
Why Charleston was Hard to Settle The Charleston we know today was not always as beautiful and straight-sailing as it is today. The settlers wanted to settle in Charles Town but, there were many disadvantages to living there but settled there anyway so, they settled in Charles Town then, the settlers started discovering all of the horrible things that came with settling in Charles Town. Charles Town was hard to settle because of geography, resources, and diseases. Charles Town was hard to settle because of the town 's geography. Document A or the “1671 Old Plats of Charles Town” shows that geography in Charles Town was a drawback from colonists settling there.
The new English Chesapeake colonies consisted of Virginia and Maryland and went through quite a lot to colonize. Virginia, the first successful English colony, belonged to the London Company, soon to be called the Virginia Company of London. They originally sent 144 men to explore the land for precious gems, but only 105 made it. These men consisted of gentlemen adventurers, jewelers, and artisans. They brought along no women or farmers as they were not looking to colonize, but to gather gems and explore the land in Jamestown.

It was during this time that rice was determined to be an important crop for the economy, negroes began being imported in large numbers, society was developed through anglicanization and creolization, the economy began to thrive, and slave rebellions and runaways increased in number and intensity. While some may argue that people are born either good or evil, John Boyne, the author of the boy in striped pajamas, highlights that hate is something that you are influenced by, not something you are born with throughout this book.
