John Proctor Sinner or Human? Leviticus 19:31 (Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I[am] the LORD your GOD). John Proctor lives like any man would today if they lived in the Salem witch trials. He was thirty years old, had a wife and two boys with an unknown boy on the way. Only one boy was baptized because he didn’t like minister. Proctor had an affair with the minister’s niece , Abigail. She will try to kill Mrs. Proctor in order to get to John Proctor to run away with her. Proctor was a good man who made mistakes that are still happening today. One of the reasons why he is hung is because he doesn’t want to ruin his name and lie with his hand on the bible. It is evident that he is very ashamed of when he cheated on his wife. He shows how he is ashamed in different ways like how he denies it and threatens to beat anyone who says anything about it. At the beginning of the story he has a chance to cheat again on his wife but all he is concerned about is that his wife doesn’t get charged with witchcraft by Abigail. She tells him that she never saw the devil and that she is just making this up. He finds it funny that everyone believes it at first but then people start to get arrested. Proctor is the one that shows him around and becomes one of his friends later on in the story. This helps him later on in the story because Hale knows what kind of man he is. Reverend Hale tries everything that he can do to save Proctor from himself. Proctor would choose death over losing the worth of his name for his children, wife, and himself. When Reverand Hale comes to Proctors house to get to know him better and try to find out how much faith is in the house. Reverend Hale asks them to say the Ten Commandments Proctor says all of them but
