The Brave and Kindhearted John Short
This biography is only a fraction of what you deserve. I dedicate this biography to my great-grandparents, Helen Short and John Short Jr. Though I have only met you once, you both have left lasting impressions, given me a role model to look up to, and taught me life lessons that have gotten me through difficult times. I will keep and cherish all that you have given me.

On June 27, 1924, John Culbertson Short Jr. was born in Indianapolis, Indiana,
and within a small amount of time, moved to Muncie, Indiana when he was

John was an only
child, his mother was a stay at home mom and his dad a manager at a Crane Plumbing Branch.
He recalls his parent having a happy and healthy relationship. Two memories he has of his
childhood home are of the driveway and a young girl he used to play with. As a young
boy he was an average student at the _ public school. His mother would make him
wear hats, but John always disliked them, so as soon as he was out of his mother’s
view the hat was no longer on his head. In highschool he was a catch, strutting down the
hallways and winking at girls. It even became his nickname, Winky that is. Although as soon as
the nickname surfaced there seemed to be a “verbal typo”. The Winky nickname soon
became Stinky for no apparent reason. John played basketball and golf but golf was his
real passion. He started playing at age seven and continued for eighty years. John
graduated highschool at the age of eighteen, he went to college for a year in hopes of
becoming a _. After only a year of college 19 year old John Short was drafted into
World War II. He was deployed to France and Germany. He began his service in

That year after only one and a
half years of dating he proposed in the car at Duck Creek park in Davenport Iowa. They were wed
on August 30, 1947. That night led to a long and happy marriage, in which there were three
three troublesome young boys ; John The III, Tom, and Bruce. Raising and spending time with
his kids was John Jr.’s favorite part of parenthood. He had strong relationships with his kids and
loved to watch them swim in their numerous swim meets. Along with his three boys he had a __
(dog), named Ike, he was John’s forever buddy. John followed in his father’s footsteps and
worked at a Crane plumbing company, he worked in an office in _. After 16 years, John was
offered another job and he took it. Switching his job is his only regret. As his boys grew up and
children of their own, John and Helen continued to have a strong relationship, one that lasted for
sixty-five years. Sadly, on _ _,_, John’s wife died of Alzheimer 's. She is missed greatly by her
greatly by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. John now lives alone in
Arizona. He is 91 years old and still going
