Flags of Our Fathers is a book about the Battle of Iwo Jima. There were young men from teenagers to adults. Many of the young men that joined didn 't want to have anything to do with war, but when they joined they had a duty to fulfill. Their duty is the legal obligations that they have to follow which means that if they are sent to war they have to do their jobs. All the men that fought in this battle have motivation.

Steinbeck is the winner of the “Nobel Prize in Literature.” He has been called “ a giant of American letters.” Steinbeck wrote a book called The Red Pony in 1933. The first three sections were published in magazines from 1933-1936, and the full book was published in 1937 by Covici Friede.
He continued to write but all the novels were more or less failures. His political beliefs lead him to his first success, The Jungle. In 1903 and 1904 he was sent to Chicago to write a segment for the newspaper Appeal to Reason about the mistreatment of workers in the meatpacking industry. After several weeks of undercover research The Jungle began to form. It was initially rejected by publishers, but in 1906 the novel was finally released and the public was in shock.

In 1962, after achieving success for multiple of this books, Steinbeck later became a winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature. He wrote twenty-seven books, which included sixteen novels, six non-fiction books, and five collections of short stories. Although many of his stories were prized, The Grapes of Wrath is considered to be Steinbeck’s greatest masterpiece. During the Depression Era, there were also many other American writers who were writing at the same time as Steinbeck.

He makes the ultimate decisions for survival and stability, while the women complete everyday tasks: keeping food on the table, tending to the children’s needs, and cleaning up around the house. Like many men living in the rural state of Oklahoma, Pa has a farm to manage. Because the farm produces crops to consume and sell, it is a direct source of how one is able to live. This puts Pa in a position of authority over his family’s survival.
Initially, Steinbeck stated that a change has begun, resulting in the Western States becoming nervous, due to taxes are changing and an enormous amount of people are migrating over to work. Subsequently, Steinbeck declares that the function of the man is essentially to work using his hands, not by controlling any machinery, specifically a tractor which is eliminating a vast majority of jobs. Lastly, Steinbeck states that even though people, despite the use of tractors it is a necessity for some to survive, even more in the end Steinbeck foreshadows the beginning of a war by mentioning tanks, and bombs.
