John Wayne Gacy was born on March 17, 1942, Illinois, Chicago in a blue-collar family. His father, John Stanley Gacy was an auto repair mechanist and mother, Marion Elaine Robinson, a homemaker. He had a close relationship with his sisters and mother, however, he had a strained relationship with his father. Gacy grew up under the razor strap of his physically abusive alcoholic father who often hit him, his sisters and mother as well. Not only abusive, Sr. Gacy was also a harsh disciplinarian. As a child, Gacy was unathletic and had above the average weight limit. In his father’s eyes, Gacy was an embarrassment, weak and feminine. He would often undercut his business rivals’ contract by hiring high-school age employees. On January 3, 1972 Gacy had experienced his first killings. A youth he had brought home for sex had died and Gacy had buried him in the crawlspace. According to Gacy it was unintentional, self-defence because he had believed that the youth was going to attack him with a knife. His second killing was not until 3 years later. Gacy’s second kill was one of his employee, John Butkovich. He had lured his victim into his home, strangled him to death and buried the corpse. During this period, Gacy’s relationship with his second wife, Carole had been rapidly declining. Eventually their marriage had ended in March 1976 in the amidst of Gacy’s further killings. Gacy’s construction company was used as to lure in youths that were eager for work. He had also found his victims among gay bars and downtown Greyhound bus station. In his crimes, Gacy frequently engages in sexual intercourse with his victims. He would often handcuff them as a “magic trick” and watch them struggle as he tells them “the trick is, you need a key”. After his victims dies, Gacy would bury them in the crawl space of his house.
