During early civilization in America, not every colonist lived the same way. Many migrated over the Atlantic Ocean in search of wealth and religious freedom. Adjusting to a new life thousands of miles away was hard, and many worked countless hours to make ends meet. Here are inventories of two American colonials at the time of their death from around the late 1600s, Edward Inman and Stephen Luffe. Edward Inman died in 1688 in Talbott County in Maryland, while Stephen Luffe died in 1698 in Sumersett County in the same state.
I believe that Holton wrote this book in order to explain the complex make up of the Virginia gentry. The title of Woody Holton 's history of revolutionary Virginia seems to promise an account of how enslaved Africans and Native Americans were compelled toward independence against their will and interest. He explains that the forced fathers in this account are actually the Virginia gentry. Holton argues that the Virginia gentry were propelled toward independence by two other causes related to their class and material interests. One cause was an outgrowth of the gentry 's problem with debts and merchants.
Every step he took in life was in a political way. He was called “ the last of the Puritans”. He lived a very privileged life as a boy. He attended one of the top schools in Boston which is Boston Latin
LEQ prompt 1 During the period between 1607 and 1754, the British had established colonies in North America, inspired by the riches and wealth gained by the Spanish upon the conquest of the Aztecs and Incas in the 16th century, the early British settlements had hoped for the same riches and discoveries in the northern Americas. The first successful permanent settlement was established in Jamestown Virginia, and as time advances the English established thirteen colonies divided geographically into three regions: new England, middle and southern colonies. Socially the English colonists were similar by the means that they shared an English heritage but differed greatly in lifestyle, politically and economically the colonies had many differences,

John Winthrop knew that their colony would “be a service to the church” by “[carrying] the gospel” into this new part of the world (Winthrop). This colony would demonstrate
161076 10학년 양윤석 After a hundred years after Columbus’s momentous landfall, figure of the New world had already been conspicuously transformed. However, north of Mexico, America in 1600 remained largely unexplored and effectively unclaimed by Europeans. England was one of the country which enlarged its power on America during 1600s. Waves of Puritan immigrants arrived in the region of New England, and they started to form a new atmosphere. However, the biggest difference with the Chesapeake region’s inhabitants was that the Puritans didn’t aim primarily for economic benefit or trade.
John and Ann Winthrop just need a place where their family can be free of religious persecution. The New Hope wilderness settlement starts to look like a vain hope as winter approaches, their supplies run low, and a group of suits arrive in a helicopter. Jon Edwards tries to moderate the demands of his Lunar Mining Colony co-workers, but strikes and sabotage have made him skeptical that anyone, much less a bunch of amateurs chosen by the Company back on Earth, can replace the "real" miners and restore the crippled plant to full production. The Earth has to trust LMC for supplies only the Moon can provide.
I cannot express the joy I felt when I saw land. It is a very cold place, but my thick, proud viking blood will carry me through any hardship I may face. After days of sailing in the icy waters of the torrent sea I was quite ready to get rid of my sea legs. I am a very experienced, and my crew has even gone as far as to say we wouldn 't have survived the journey without my guidance.
The New Englanders took religion seriously, making unitary laws according to Puritan standards. John Winthrop, later chosen as the first Massachusetts Bay Colony governor, was seeking religious freedom. Wishing to inspire the colonists to dwell in brotherly unity, he summoned them together to remind them “that if we [colonists] shall deal falsely with our God in this work we have undertaken, and so cause Him to withdraw His present help from us, we shall be made a story and a by-word through the world.” On the other hand, those in the Chesapeake region came for the wealth that America promised. They were there to become prosperous or die trying.
John Winthrop wrote the Arbella Covenant while in journey to Massachusetts. William Bradford is
Speaker: The speaker of this sermon is John Winthrop. Winthrop was a wealthy male Englishmen, lawyer, and Puritan who ventured towards the New World. I’m assuming this writing would be religiously bias, due to his beliefs in the Puritan faith. With the previous knowledge of him being a first-generation colonist; he’s presumably coaxing the colonist to become prosperous in the New World. Occasion:
The New England colonies were first founded in the last 16th to 17th century as a sanctuary for differing religious groups. New England was made up of the Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. New Hampshire, however, was formed for economic reasons instead of religious ones. The Chesapeake region, which is made up of the colonies of Maryland and Virginia, was founded by the British colonies for the purpose of farming. However, by the 1700’s, despite both being settled by Englishmen, New England and the Chesapeake region had developed differently.
The arrival of the first Europeans in the Americas is dramatically captured through the many writers who attempted to communicate what they saw, experienced and felt. What is more, the very purposes of their treacherous travel and colonization are clearly seen in their writings; whether it is poetry, history or sermons. Of the many literary pieces available today, William Bradford and John Winthrop’s writings, even though vary because the first is a historical account and the second is a sermon, stand out as presenting a clear trust in God, the rules that would govern them and the reason they have arrived in the Americas. First of all, William Bradford provides an in-depth look into the first moment when the Puritans arrived in the Americas. In fact, he chronicles the hardships they face on their way to Plymouth, yet he includes God’s provision every step of the way.
John Winthrop: A Puritan Leader who became the first Governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony. From January 12, 1587/8 - March 2, 1649, John Winthrop led a group of English Puritans to the new world, joined the Massachusetts Bay Company in 1629 and became their Governor on April 8, 1630. He was the major backbone in molding the Colony’s government, also shaping its Legislative policy. Roger Williams: This man typically brought religious and political liberty to Rhode Island, (1603-1683). He acknowledged that, the civil government should punish whoever breaks the law, or poses harm or threat to the community.
