The Dangers of Glorifying War
War can be defined as two or more opposing sides fighting for what they believe in. Sometimes, a person has the unpopular opinion and has to deal with the hardships of having a different perspective of things. When the unpopular opinion occurs, people normally choose not to listen to it because the human race does not like being out of place. When Joe from Johnny Got his Gun and Charlie from the movie Shenandoah go to war and fight, they become aware of how dangerous war truly is and get silenced for having a unliked and unwanted opinion. Johnny Got his Gun, By Dalton Trumbo is a story about a seventeen year old boy who goes to war without a real purpose and finds himself facing the consequences of war. He lost his ability to hear, see, taste, talk and no longer has legs, arms or a face. He is now trying to figure out how and why he got to the point of where he is. Through memories, thoughts, and dreams, Joe finds out what he has lost and what he has gained through the war and comes to a realization that war is unnecessary unless you have an actual reason to be fighting. Charlie, the main character of the movie Shenandoah, always thought that war was unnecessary because there was no true reason for him and his family to be fighting.
