The second reason Johnny is innocent is that he was trying to protect himself. He tries to protect himself because they were about to jump and Johnny says in the text that they had switchblades too.
Instead, he killed Bob. Killing someone who is not the aggressor is a crime. Johnny is guilty because he did not kill the aggressor, instead he killed Bob. To continue my point, in the argumentative debate, we had the opposing side continuously bring up the fact that Bob was the aggressor but by definition, “A person, group or nation who attacks first” and with that we know that Bob was not the one attacking Ponyboy, it was David making him the aggressor. Johnny had not purposely but out of fear killed a Soc to protect his friend. Johnny was brave and noble to be able to protect Pony and help the kids at the church. He had been beaten before and was not wanting that to happen to them. He bravely protected his younger friend Pony from the Socs. He had jumped into a burning church without hesitation to save a group of younger school kids.
Johnny encounters a truly unpleasant life all through the novel The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton. Johnny's guardians constantly beat him up and disregard him. On top of that, he doesn't motivate enough to eat and is even attempting suicide, the greater part of that makes him the gang's pet. "If you can picture a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers, you'll have Johnny." Johnny was terrified of his own shadow after he was jumped by the Socs when he was sixteen.
People believed Johnny was a great young man different from the rest of the gang. However, some people may think Johnny is not a hero. Some people may not think Johnny is a hero because he ran into a burning building without thinking about himself. When Johnny saw the burning church he ran inside without hesitation, in the process he did not think about how he could be hurt or even killed.
Johnny has gotten jumped once and he said that the next person that tries to jump him he will kill. The murder was `caused because they were frowning Ponyboy and Bob was gonna beat up Johnny. Johnny killed Bob because Bob was gonna beat up Johnny. I 'm defending Johnny because he did not murder no-oe he was just self-defending .
Johnny Cade and Ponyboy Curtis ended up in the fight, because the Socs were in there part of town and they were drunk. Ponyboy and Johnny were running away from home. The reason Ponyboy wanted to run away is because Darry, Ponyboy’s oldest brother hit him because he got home at 2:00 in the morning. Johnny and Ponyboy ended up in the fight with Bob Shelton, because they were walking home with Cherry Valance and Marcia from the drive in movies. Johnny is justified in what he did and is Not Guilty, because he killed Bob for revenge for what he did before, to save Ponyboy and protect him, and he killed Bob so Ponyboy would not be dead.
One night, Johnny and Ponyboy were hanging around in the park. After being there for a while, they received some unexpected visitors, the Socs. When the Socs began to attack, they quickly pinned Johnny down and started to drown Ponyboy. Knowing that Ponyboy would probably die if he didn’t receive some assistance, Johnny decided to take some action. His following actions are shown with “You really killed him, huh Johnny?
Ponyboy was being drowned in the water and “(He) couldn’t hold (his) breath any longer”(Hinton 64). David was drowning Ponyboy to the point where he couldn't breathe and “only sucked in water”(64). If Johnny never “Killed (Bob)” he would either have drowned or got abused (63). In essence, he was only doing this for self-defense. He has gotten attacked by the Socs and now he’s taking action to defend himself and Ponyboy.
If Johnny yelled for help, he would have ended up in the same position as Ponyboy, if not worse. Therefore, if Johnny had not stabbed Bob, Ponyboy would have died in the hands of Bob. Another big reason Johnny deserves a light punishment is the argument that Johnny is still a minor in high school and this could potentially affect him in the future. Johnny is also still in high school, meaning if he were to get a harsh punishment it could ruin his education and plans, as well as getting a job in the future. Johnny also had no issues with the law or the record, he had no issues with fights and wasn't problematic at school.
Consequently with all that was going on at that moment, Johnny defended himself and Ponyboy who is one of the Greasers. Furthermore, Ponyboy responds saying, “‘You really killed him, huh, Johnny? ‘Yeah.’ His voice quivered slightly. ‘I had to.

The character Johnny grows in major ways throughout The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. Johnny was a greaser, His best friend was Ponyboy, the main character. Johnny was a dynamic character, he contributed a lot to the main theme. Johnny had bad parents and committed murder. Soon after his bad acts, he became a hero.
