Jon was born and raised in New Jersey has never forgotten his roots. Jon Bon Jovi is a well-known singer/songwriter, record producer and actor. He is mostly known for his band, Bon Jovi, who received their big break in 1984 and is still producing music to this day. Despite the fact the 80s are long gone and the leather outfits and long, permed hair is out, Jon Bon Jovi remains just as famous and well respected as he was in his younger years. The time area he grew up in told he could do whatever he wanted with his life and he did exactly that. “I grew up believing anything was possible. That was the American mindset in the early 60s, the Kennedy era of Camelot and space. The president told this country: “We’re gonna go to the moon,’ and you believed him. I was born into that…That’s what I strived for.” (Griffin 28). Jon was born in Sayreville, New Jersey, on March 2, 1962. His parents are John Francis Bongiovi, Senior and Carol Bongiovi. His parents were both Marines which is how they met. He also has two brothers named Anthony and Matthew. Even as a young kid, Jon had discovered a love for music. He was mostly influenced by musicians like KISS, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, AC/DC, Elton John, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Jimi Hendrix. As a kid he was determined to be a star musician. Jon and his band wrote and recorded their first single, Runaway, in 1983. “’Runaway’ finally being played in New York City-that’s how we broke. There was no label. There was no promotion. There was no big manager.” (Griffin 31). This forever changed Jon’s life. He wasn’t just a small town boy who wanted to be a rock star, he was a Rolling Stone. With each and every song the band came out with they just continued to get more and more popular. Jon was finally signed to a record label in 1984 called Mercury. Just Jon’s name was signed on the deal though, the rest of the members are considered his workers. The band’s first album was self-titled, Bon Jovi, and was released with the most popular singles at the time Runaway, Shot Through the Heart, She Don’t Know Me, and Burning for Love. However, they started their tour in 1983 which was the Bon Jovi tour. The band has been at it for over 25 years and is still making records to this day. But success didn’t come easy to the band; they had their ups and downs. In the beginning the constantly were struggling with being able to afford equipment, finding places to play. The band came out with their second album 9 months after the first and it didn’t even make platinum.
