Jon Krakauer is a writer, a mountaineer, and a journalist. He was born on April 12, 1954, in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was born to Lewis Krakauer and Carol Ann Krakauer. His father, a weekend climber was the one who introduced Krakauer to mountaineer when he was eight years old. In 1976 Krakauer graduated from Hampshire College, in the years after that Krakauer supported himself as a carpenter and a fisherman. For the next two decades Krakauer spent his time climbing mountains. In the year 1996 Krakauer climbed Mt. Everest, this was a harsh journey for Krakauer and the rest of the crew. This is due to a storm that would lead to the death of some of the climbers.
When Krakauer climbed Everest he was inexperienced. Before Everest “Krakauer had not even been to an altitude as high as the Everest Base Camp” (Shmoop Editorial Team. Though it resulted in the loss of many lives, the reason this event is remembered is that Krakauer climbed Everest while simultaneously living through one of the largest storms in the history of that mountain. It truly takes courage to know that a life can be lost in a journey, yet still take the risk in search for adventure. Jon Krakauer was fortunate enough to live, but the ones that died had so much more to live for. They died facing something as thrilling as Everest; and one of the climbers was able to face all of the ten highest peaks in the world before her death. The people who died on Everest, in May 10, 1996 deserve respect but we should still remember Krakauer and the others as they manage to have courage, perseverance and strength to survive Everest in one of its most dangerous
