Would you want to be the receiver and have all of the pain? Trust me you don’t want to be the receiver, the receiver has to hold all of the memories, and pain for the whole community. If you live Jonas’s society, and you got selected you would have to keep all of the pain. This doesn't seem fair, but this is what it is like in the book The Giver by Lois Lowry. In this book Jonas’s society is a bunch of lies. Jonas is selected and The Giver has to give him all of the pain for the whole community. This is a very difficult task for this 12 to handle. Jonas is only a 12 which means he is 12 years old, he is very young for such a difficult task. Will Jonas be able to handle this or will he try to apply for release. “‘ He killed it! Jonas is the hero because he doesn't care that he could be in danger and he still helps Gabe. He did not want to see this happen so he took matters into his own hands, and decided he didn't want to let this happen to Gabe sio he tried hio help him. The quote I chose relates to the theme because, only Jonas and The Giver knows what “release” means. The quote states his father killed the newchild, and he wants to save Gabriel since he knows what happens. When Jonas realizes what happens to the newchildren who are released he knows he has to help him, and he does it out of the love in his heart. He puts up quite the fight for Gabe and doesn't care that he could be in danger
