Chancellor Jonathan Bennett is better know as Chance the Rapper. He is a singer, rapper, song writer and record producer who came from the outside of Chicago, Illinois. His younger years of his life were always spent with music. Chance incorporated himself with a friend doing little doing performances at younger ages. As he continued to get older as he was getting more determines into music being around in his life. Chance the Rapper grew up in a middle class neighborhood with his two parents, Ken Williams Bennett and Lisa Bennett, and his only brother, Taylor Bennett. Who himself is now a Chicago rapper. Some of Chance the Rappers earliest performances happened at Harold Washington Library in Chicago. While having an interview over singing he announced that the first ever rap or jazz he started listening to was Kanye West cd in from 2004 The College Dropout. Many of Chance the Rappers teachers always knew music would take over his life with how much work he would put into all his life. During his senior year at Jones College Prep High School in 2011 he got in trouble for having a possessing marijuana on campus. Following that he had a ten day suspension. While being on suspension he wasn't aloud to leave him his house nor his room with cause him to get more interest in music. Which caused him to leave his comfort zone and start making his own new music about his ten days of suspension. After making fourteen songs within those ten days he made his own album called “#10 Day.” All of the songs he wrote had to do with getting in trouble and being trapped in his house. His first song in 10 Day is called “14,400 minutes” which is how many minutes are in ten days. Another song he wrote while being in suspension was called “Windows” got exposed in February 2012 for being highlighted as one of Complex magazine's "10 New Chicago Rappers to Watch Out For.” Chance the Rapper officially released the album #10 Day in 2012. He partnered up with Donald Glover who is an American rapper better known as Childish Gambino in July of 2012 his sixth mixtape, Royalty, on the track, called "They Don't Like Me". Gambino asked Bennett to join on his first concert tour of North America as his opening act. Chance the Rapper then released his second mixtape on April 30, 2013 naming it “Acid Rap.” Within a week on this mixtape being released it was downloaded over one millions times. The Acid Rap album had being different type of singer featuring his his songs. He said in an interview that having different types of musical artist would pull in more views his his music since he was new. Chance’s second album, Acid Rap got nominated for Best Mixtape at the 2013's BET Hip Hop Awards. In July 2013, Acid Rap debuted at number 63 on the Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, ll because of the downloads on iTunes and Amazon. In August 2013, Bennett performed at the Chicago music festival Lollapalooza. Acid Rap was listed on multiple 50 best albums of 2013 lists, including 26th for Rolling Stone, 12th on Pitchfork's list, and ranked 4th by Complex. It was also listed as one of NPR Music's 50 Favorite Albums of 2013.
