JonBenet Ramsey: On the Runway to Justice The six-year-old beauty queen, JonBenet Patricia Ramsey, was found brutally murdered in the basement of her family's home the day after Christmas. This cold case continues to haunt, confuse, and stump detectives for years and contains dead end after dead end. While there have been numerous theories and controversies as to who the killer was, the evidence against the parents of JonBenet is the strongest. JonBenet Ramsey was the daughter of John and Patsy Ramsey. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and had a special southern charm that overtook everyone’s hearts. The Ramsey family later moved to Boulder, Colorado where JonBenet competed in many pageants and eventually became Little Miss Colorado. However, …show more content…
JonBenet received a blunt blow to her head, and with further investigation, the size of the blow matched exactly to the heavy flashlight on the kitchen counter detectives later noticed in photos of the crime scene. This piece of evidence gained interest when analysts connected it to the scenario that dealt with the container of pineapple left on the dining room table. This account is one that convinces most people to believe that Burke was the murderer. In JonBenet’s autopsy, the examiner found an undigested piece of pineapple, and on the night before JonBenet was killed, Burke was eating a late time snack, pineapple. Detectives believed that JonBenet took a piece of the fruit from Burke’s bowl, and out of rage, he snapped, reached out to the flashlight, and hit her with it. Patsy Ramsey, the former Miss Virginia 1977, presented herself as a good hearted and compassionate mother and person who would never hurt a soul (Bane). However, appearances only go skin deep and multiple pieces of evidence prove otherwise. When JonBenet’s body was found, she was garroted with a rope and one of Patsy’s paintbrushes that came from her paint set that was in close proximity to the body. One of the biggest pieces of evidence was the two and a half page ransom note left on the Ramsey’s spiral staircase. It was written on Patsy’s stationary notepad with a sharpie, and when handwriting specialists examined the note, they noticed the script used had a faint resemblance to Patsy’s. Detectives and experts called the phrases included in the note “unoriginal” and that they “seemed lifted from classic crime films” (Lovitt). The Boulder, Colorado’s police department and investigators are convinced that the note was a coverup for what Patsy Ramsey did to JonBenet. It has been said
