Born on August 6, 1990, in Atlanta, Georgia, JonBenet Ramsey was the daughter of a socialite and a wealthy business-man (JonBenet Ramsey, n.d.). She was a 6-year-old beauty queen who was found murdered in her parents’ Boulder, Colorado, home on December 26, 1996. Still unsolved, the murder led to one of the most publicized police investigation of the 1990’s.

Patsy Ramsey called the police after she noticed that her daughter, JonBenet was not in bed and finding the ransom note demanding $118,000. JonBenet body was later discovered in the basement that afternoon. She had a fracture skull and allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled with a cord. The Ramsey family moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and published a memoir, The Death of Innocence, in 2000 to counter the media persecution they felt it had ruined their lives. Patsy Ramsey died June 24, 2006 of ovarian cancer at the age of 49. In July 2008, new “touch DNA” technology cleared all members of JonBenet Ramsey’s family in the 1996 killing. Boulder, County District Attorney Mary Lacy formally apologized in a letter to John Ramsey for the cloud of suspicion his family had lived under for nearly 12 year (JonBenet Ramsey, n.d.).

Experts from CBS’ The Case of JonBenet Ramsey reported that multiple lines from the ransom note were actually lifted from movies, including Dirty Harry (1971) and Speed (1994) (Bizarre Things About JonBenet Ramsey Case, n.d.). Experts tested the time it would take to write the ransom note, and it took every test-taker at least 20 minutes to complete without having to think about what to write. A forensic linguistics expert said the language in the note was “materialistic” and that it seemed like the author deliberately made certain errors to make it seem like the writer’s native language was not
