Joseph Haydn was a man of his time, and could be said to be one of the most famous composers in Europe then. Born into a family of musicians on 31 March 1732, Haydn also grew up in his parents’ footsteps to become a court musician for the Esterházy family at their remote estate. Haydn’s music was wide-spread and heard by many in Europe, and recognized and loved by his audience, he could be said to have achieved the peak of excellence in composing and performance. Furthermore, he was a friend and mentor to other well-established composers in history, such as Mozart and Beethoven, once again putting Haydn on a high pedestal.
