Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. senator in Wisconsin. He practiced the concept of McCarthyism. The idea of McCarthyism went completely against communism. So anyone who supported McCarthyism hated communist. They thought Communist were the worst people ever. McCarthyism became popular after World War II, but to completely understand McCarthyism we must know what is communism, who is Joseph McCarthy and then finally what is McCarthyism. Communism is the idea of everyone being equal and being tolerant of each other in a society and having organization. The exact definition of communism is “a system of social organization in which all economic and social activity is controlled by a totalitarian state dominated by a single and self-perpetuating political party.” The Red Scare was the fear of communist. He was born into a Roman Catholic Family. McCarthy was part of a large family, he was the fifth child out of nine total. As a child he live on a farm. After high school he went to a university in Milwaukee. At the University he earned his law degree in 1935. He served in the marines as a lieutenant during World War II (“Joseph R. McCarthy”). As I said early Joseph McCarthy was a U.S. senator for the state of Wisconsin. He was elected at a senator in 1946 and his term as senator began in 1947. His term ended in 1957 when he died due to having acute hepatitis. He died in the state of Maryland. While McCarthy was in office he would accuse people of being communist and would then have those people arrested. Many people spoke out against McCarthy because his accusations were pretty ridiculous. I strongly think McCarthy used his power of being a senate wrongly. He basically put people in jail for no reason at all. He put them in jail all because they believed everyone should be treated equal, and some of the people he had arrested he wasn’t even positive they were
