In Joss Whedon’s episode “Hush” in Buffy the Vampire Slayer elected officials are being represented by the Gentlemen,because like the elected officials in America, they are polite, want people’s hearts, and are susceptible to communication which is a fundamental problem as the people’s representatives. The Gentlemen and the elected officials are polite. Politicians often go out with a smile on their face like the Gentlemen who are frozen like that in order to convince voters that they are good people. They knock on the door and go from victim to victim just to get what they want and for politicians it is to vote for them in the next election. They both wear suits in order to show that they are professional and hide their misdeeds. However, the Gentlemen were not there just to be civil, they had their own agenda like Politicians who make sure that their public image is good so that they get re-elected. Both the Gentlemen and the elected officials want people’s hearts. They steal the voice of the people they want, the Gentlemen did that precisely, but politicians just ignore anybody who is not in their party or not in their target range of voters. They are supposed to be leaders to all, but most really only do the things their party wants and disregard everything else. Buffy, her team, and the military are like factions. Once they got together and were able to communicate, they were able to make a plan and stop the Gentlemen. Only till they were able to work together were they able to get things done. Once Buffy was able to speak out and get her voice heard the evil Gentlemen were defeated, like one can defeat a legislator if their actions are heard by the people and the people work together in order to get what they want
