Billie Jo struggle with a lot of things but her biggest struggle is getting away from the dust. Billie Jo friend Livie Killian is leaving Oklahoma and going to California. Billie Jo says, “And I’m wondering what kind of friend I am, wanting my feet on that road to another place, instead of Livie’s” (9). Billie Jo is feeling guilty because she wishes it was her leaving instead of Livie. Billie Jo, runs away and gets on a train to leave the dust of Oklahoma behind.

This incident led Jeanette’s mother to dangle from a second story window while her father attempted to pull her back inside. Every time something seemingly unpleasant occurred, her parents had a way to either ignore it or intertwine it into their grand future plan of a never-ending adventurous life. Louise Endrich shows the role the environment plays which has an impact on how the two children are viewed through literary devices such as, imagery, her point of view, and selection of detail. Every day people are affected by the environment in which they are in. Everyone is affected differently by their surroundings just how Karl and Mary were affected differently by arriving at Argus. How people react to the situations they are put in exhibits their qualities and ability to handle tough situations.

Fickling Personality: Honey West’s personality is a highly socially interactive woman that has exploits her sexual prowess as a means of gathering information from her clients and potential suspects. More so, West is an intelligent woman that is capable of solving problems with logic and reasoning. These personality factors define the sexual active and highly motivated social acumen that West utilizes as a private investigator working out of Hollywood. Honey West has many of the traits of a “protector”, since she becomes a private investigator to seek revenge for the death of her father. West as a strong intuition about people, which allows her to manipulate them through sexuality, charisma, and guile when investigating cases for her clients.
Betty Louise Bell was told by her parents that they saw something different in her at a very young age. Bell began walking and talking before the age of two. Bell was different than her siblings because she was raised outside of her class and culture. Bell can be described on page 32 as, “a child with manners and affectations more ambitious than her employer’s children.” This compliment came from a manager saying Bell “reminded her of Jackie Kennedy” because of the way she was raised, not because of Jackie Kennedy’s looks.
In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee took the minor character of Mayella Ewell and made her into a sympathetic role to her readers in a latent way. Mayella's life at home is told through the story's background and foreshadowing references. This is how Lee made Mayella memorable enough to the reader to know who she is and her family situation without needing her point of view of her side of the story. Once Mayella enters the storyline, her actions will become understandable to the reader and generate sympathy. One way Lee makes Mayella a sympathetic character is how before entering her into the story, one of Mayella's younger siblings was introduced.
By all appearances, Miss Strangeworth is a sweet, old lady, living in a perfect, shiny, happy town. But appearances are not everything, especially in the case of Miss Adela Strangeworth of Pleasant Street. Miss Adela Strangeworth, a character in the short story “The Possibility of Evil” by Shirley Jackson, is a 71-year-old spinster living in a small town in the 1940’s. At the beginning, she seems like any normal old lady, but it is quickly realized that this is not the case and that she has a dark side. Of the many traits that Miss Strangeworth possesses, the most prominent are her deceptiveness, perfectionism, and the god complex that has developed.
Warfare in The Great War proved to be an extremely difficult and treacherous to almost anything that had to go through it. The image that lingers most in my mind is of trench warfare and how dangerous it portrayed itself to be. The war tactics used by both sides were considered barbaric compared to the new technology of weapons and vehicles. This resulted in the death of massive amounts of soldiers. The trenches would be filled with piles of dead and wounded soldiers covered in mud and being infected from deep cuts or from different body parts that have been detached from them.
Behind the Beautiful Forevers, written by Katherine Boo, is about residents of Annawadi, a slum in Mumbai, India. These slums of Mumbai force kids to grow up faster than anywhere else on the planet. Forcing kids to work as soon as they can walk, and press them into tough situations. The book details the lives of the female slumlord, Asha, and her daughter Manju. Asha is part of the corrupt system of government, and wants her daughter to be just like her when she grows up.
The goal of this activity was to compare and contrast two main characters of Frankenstein whom are Victor Frankenstein and Elizabeth Lavenza. Some of their similarities is their thirst for knowledge, and they are both very caring. Their differences include, how they approach and deal with problems, and their personalities (explained later). Both are very similar and barley have any differences but, the ones that they do have are very distinctable. Starting with similarities, Elizabeth and Victor share many such as their thirst for knowledge.
Usually when a character is very demanding, the way they act towards others is rude and obnoxious. Blanche and Stanley do clash heads a lot, but they are both antithetical to those close to them. Blanche expects everyone to listen to her and sees herself as the center of attention. She wants everyone and everything to be all about her and the main thing she wants is to be desired. Blanche cannot really have what she wants because she changes her moods on everyone and so it causes people to treat her the opposite from how she wants to be treated.
